今日のレッスンは出産順位についての記事を読みました。
Firstborn Kids Are Smarter, Study Says
Firstborn kids are generally more intelligent than their brothers and sisters, but younger siblings do better in school and are more outgoing, according to a new study. Previous birth-order research looked at children in isolation?e.g., how many presidents are firstborns?? But the new study examined 90 pairs of siblings in high school. Researchers found that while the first-borns scored better on tests, their siblings had better grade point averages.
Firstborns are assumed to have an advantage because they were at one point the sole recipient of their parents’ attention, LiveScience explains. Researchers theorize that later-borns may earn better grades thanks to help from older siblings who’ve been through the same classes, or because they feel pressure to compete with them. The researchers also asked the subjects to take a personality quiz and found that, contrary to popular belief, the younger siblings were more extroverted. Firstborns, meanwhile, have a perfectionist streak.

今回のレッスンは東日本大震災の後の津波で流されたガレキについて。

The tsunami washed up to 20 million tons of debris off the Japanese coast on March 11, and researchers in Hawaii have developed computer models to forecast its movement and predict where and when it could come ashore.
They had predicted that the first landfall would be next spring on the Midway Islands, about 2,100 kilometers northwest of Honolulu on the main Hawaiian islands in the the northern Pacific ocean.
Q: What do you think will happen if this will reach the Hawaiian shores?
- It will affect the local industry such as tourist business, fishing, marine sports. Because Hawaii is a mecca of marine sports and a lot of people are going to sunbathe but if their beach would be destroyed by the rubles -then it won't be a good sight.
Q: What do you think Japanese government should do to prevent this?
- I think some Japanese government officials are also making a research of the prediction.
Marine clean up is very costly. Where would Japan would get the fund?
- We really need to get budget for such unforseen events.
Q: Do you think Japan will seek the helo of other nations to clean up the debris?
- I think we will ask America's help, because the debris will be likely to reach America soon.

資源国といっても、

レッスンでBBCのビデオを見ました。
デジカメを買おうとした時に、サムスンとキャノンで迷った話をしてくれました。
仕様書上のスペックはサムスンのが上で値段も安く、画面も大きかったので、先生の従兄弟はサムスンを買ったそう。
Fraxie先生はキャノンを買いました。
実際に使ってみたところ、写真の質はキャノンの方が良かったとか。
私だったらどうするかな？
写真はそこそこ綺麗に取れていればイイと思う派ですが、キャノンかな〜と思いつつ
持ってるデジカメはLumixです。iPhoneと旦那さんのCannonがあるので、ちっとも使っていませんが・・・
